Our Journey
Under the leadership of Secretary Steven Matainaho, DICT has progressed through key milestones to build the foundations of a digitally transformed Papua New Guinea.
New Department Head Appointed
Secretary Steven Matainaho appointed, signalling a commitment to driving change and innovation within the government and leading the department into a new era of digitalization.
Digital Transformation Policy
Following Secretary Matainaho's appointment, the Digital Transformation Policy was approved, providing foundational strategic guidance for embracing digital technologies across all public bodies.
Department Restructure and Rebranding
The Department of ICT underwent reorganisation and rebranding, bolstering the department's workforce with the much-needed innovative workforce to execute the digital transformation mandate.
Digital Government Act & Data Protection Policy
The Digital Government Act 2022 was enacted, establishing the legal framework for digital transformation. The National Cyber Security Policy and Data Protection Policy were also formalised.
Government Cloud & Digital Government Plan
The Government Cloud framework was established to host government systems securely while meeting sovereignty requirements. The Digital Government Plan 2023–2027 was also launched.
